As many of you know, starting on Earth Day 2010 Arbor Teas began to deliver its line of organic loose teas in 100% backyard compostable packaging! With the release of this next generation packaging, we at Arbor Teas advanced our environmental mission, continuing to lead the tea industry through our staunch commitment to sustainable business practices. For the first time ever, tea drinkers were able to compost their tea leaves AND tea packaging together in their home composting system!
Recently, our packaging was recognized in the article “Is That a Candy Bar Wrapper in My Tomato Garden?” on sustainablebrands.com. You may recognize the photo at the beginning of the article!
“Sustainable packaging gives the consumer yet another reason to choose one product over another…”

Arbor Teas was recently featured in the February edition of MetroParent Magazine! In this fun story, MetroParent introduces its readers to Arbor Teas’ owners Aubrey and Jeremy as well as their children Arthur and Penelope. To celebrate the event, Olivia May From the Kitchen of Olivia, shared with us her latest Cooking with Tea Recipe: Honeybush Tea Jelly. Olivia exclaims “This recipe is for the kids! Honeybush Tea Jelly makes fantastic PB&J sandwiches!” The woody sweetness of Arbor Teas’ Organic Honeybush balances the tartness of the homemade apple pectin used to thicken the jelly and Honeybush is naturally caffeine-free – yes, it is quite perfect for the kids! Honeybush Tea Jelly can also be combined with nuts and spices and stuffed into apple dumplings… yum! Check out the full recipe for Honeybush Tea Jelly on the Arbor Teas website.

Arbor Teas was delighted to join friends at a special fundraiser on November 7 to support the Clowns without Borders expedition to India, one of largest tea producing countries in the world. Clowns without Borders (a 501(c)3 nonprofit) offers laughter to relieve the suffering of all persons, especially children, who live in areas of crisis including refugee camps, conflict zones and territories in situations of emergency. It brings levity, contemporary clown/circus oriented performances and workshops into communities so that they can celebrate together and forget for a moment the tensions that darken their daily lives. This specific expedition, “Project Muskurahat” (Smile), just left for India and will be working with children affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty in the slums and rural areas surrounding Mumbai. Check out their daily journal entries at http://clownswithoutborders.org/2009/11/india-2009/.
The fundraiser was a wonderful event in which a dozen Southeastern Michigan artists came together to create an informal evening of entertainment at the Wild Swan Theatre in Ann Arbor, MI. The show featured the acclaimed Srishti Dances of India, Wild Swan Theatre, Brass Tacks Ensemble, Sumkali and the Vocal Experiment (UM-Dearborn). Samosas, sweet treats, and Arbor Teas’ Indian Korakundah Estate Nilgiri Black Tea were served throughout the evening!

On May 25, 2009, Cyclone Aila made landfall in southern Bangladesh and eastern India. The Times of India reported that the storm took an unusual turn directly to the north, causing it to rip through areas rarely affected by tropical storms, including the famed Makaibari Tea Estate in India’s Darjeeling region. A relief effort is underway to help the managers, workers and families at Makaibari who were affected by Cyclone Aila, and Arbor Teas has committed to raising whatever funds it can to assist in rebuilding effort.

This year’s Ann Arbor Green Fair (the 9th annual!) was bigger and better than ever! Arbor Teas was honored to be a part of it for a second year, and happy to see so many customers (new and old) come by and say “hi!” The organic iced tea was really flowing – several hundred samples were doled out in just three hours! We were sampling both our organic kukicha green tea and our organic pomegranate white tea that day. While it was a close call, the crowd favorite seemed to be the pomegranate white, although there were an awful lot of “purists” who really favored the fresh, crisp green tea flavor of the kukicha (it was the GREEN Fair, after all…).
As a fun sidenote, we had another little “Free Tea for a Year” contest during this year’s Green Fair. Well, we are excited to announce that the winner is Jennifer R. of Ann Arbor, MI. She will begin receiving monthly installments of organic loose leaf tea through the Arbor Teas Tea of the Month Club! Congratulations, Jennifer!!!
