Yixing Teapot, 2-Cup, 17 oz
|
Yixing clay teapots (also called purple sand teapots) have been made and used in China for tea brewing for roughly 600 years. They are made from clay produced in the region of the town of Yixing, in China’s eastern Jiangsu province. Our yixing teapot is somewhat larger than many traditional examples, with a capacity of 17 ounces – bordering on 3 servings!
Because the purple sand clay found only in Yixing results in a slightly porous finish, a tiny amount of tea is absorbed into the pot during brewing. After prolonged use, the pot will develop a coating that retains the flavor, aroma and often the color of the tea. For this reason, many tea lovers prefer to dedicate their yixing teapots to a single type of tea. Also, soap should not be used to clean yixing teapots. Instead, it should be rinsed with fresh water and allowed to air-dry
Please note: like all traditional yixing teaware, our Yixing Teapot comes without an infuser.
Made in China.
