What are Blended Teas?

Kanchanjangha Estate, Panchthar District, Nepal

Our delicious blended teas use the same top-quality organic teas and/or botanicals offered in our single origin varieties, but are comprised of teas, herbs, fruit, and/or flowers of multiple origins and/or varieties. For our Golden Ginger Turmeric blend, our organic turmeric and organic ginger are sourced from one of the pioneers of organic farming in Nepal, The Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center. Located in Ranitar, a remote hilly region of Panchthar district, the Kanchanjangha Tea Estate grows much more than tea! It has employed upwards of 600 farmers and provides schooling for their children and free housing for all.

Steeping Instructions

steeping-instructions.jpg

At Arbor Teas, we believe tea should be brewed to suit your personal taste. We’re happy to make recommendations to get you started, but don’t hesitate to experiment! When brewing your tea, your main considerations are tea quantity, water temperature, and steeping time. We recommend herbal and rooibos teas to be steeped for 5 to 7 minutes in water heated to a full rolling boil. For the best flavor, use fresh water whenever possible, and avoid overboiling. If you want a stronger brew, just use more tea. And don’t forget to re-steep your tea leaves to get the most out of your leaf!

Health Benefits

tea-health-3.jpg

Ginger Root: The health benefits of ginger have long been touted, dating all the way back to 500 B.C. when Confucius wrote that he is “never without ginger when he eats.” Ginger has played a large role in herbal medicine with many people turning to ginger during the cold season. Recent scientific studies have shown that ginger also has antiseptic qualities, can reduce pain, inflammation, and nausea, and can potentially help increase blood flow.

Turmeric Root: With a rich history in Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric has been gaining popularity in the West ever since scientists started studying the plant in the 1970s. Turmeric contains the chemical compound “curcumin,” of which numerous pharmacological activities have been attributed. However, turmeric is most well known for its potentially potent anti-inflammatory effects. The curcuminoids in turmeric work to inhibit molecules that mediate inflammatory reactions - thus preventing inflammation. Turmeric has also been shown to contain antioxidants and display antimicrobial properties.

Licorice Root: Ancient Chinese medicine has been making use of licorice root for many decades, using it to soothe sore throats. Dominican monks supposedly used licorice to ease coughs and settle an upset stomach. Licorice root has demulcent, or tissue-coating, properties that can form a protective film and give relief to a sore throat. In vitro and animal studies have demonstrated that licorice root may also have anti-inflammatory and estrogenic properties as well.

    deicious

I bought this due to the healthy combo of turmeric and ginger. I love it due to the smooth taste that has a touch of sweetness all on its own. To be good for my digestion is great as well.

    Ginger turmeric tea

Posted by Nicole Kuiper on 21st Dec 2022

I love this tea! I make an entire pot and drink it all evening and the following day drink what’s left over ice. I steep it for a looong time - 30-60 mins and love the strong, spicy, and sweet flavor. I’m not sure of the health benefits of the tea but it doesn’t dehydrate at all.

My husband and I both really enjoy this tea. The flavor of the turmeric and ginger comes together with a sweet finish. I have found ginger teas from other companies too strong and overwhelming with ginger, they even kind of "burn" my mouth, but this one does not do that and is really a perfect blend. I highly recommend it. (Just be careful not to spill it b/c turmeric stains.)

    My latest evening tea

Posted by Melissa Munoz on 19th Jul 2022

I ordered a sample size of this despite my distaste for spicy tea, and I was pleasantly surprised! I do add a splash of plant-based milk and only steep for 5 minutes. The taste turns out so calming and perfect to get myself ready for bed.

    Wonderful treat

Posted by Gabrielle on 19th Apr 2022

I quit caffeine. I had to even quit my decaf coffee. I drink at least 80 oz of tea a day and wanted a special morning or evening treat. I love this tea. I don't steep it for 7 minutes, not enough flavor. I put a heaping teaspoon with 8 ounces of water at a low boil for ten minutes. I put the whole concoction in a blender with a tsp of coconut oil, plant-based milk, a pinch of pepper, maple syrup a titch of coconut cream; strain and enjoy. Many have commented about the licorice flavor. I do not like licorice at all, however, this tea does not have that flavor profile. It is very smooth and enjoyable. I highly recommend this tea. I also recommend their decaf English breakfast. I have tried everything on the market and theirs is the best! Please bring back the Chaga chicory! It's been out of stock for ever and I want to try it!

    Don't like the licorice!

I love ginger and turmeric. I was disappointed when I realized there was licorice in it. It just doesn't work for me at all.

    Golden Ginger Turmeric

Posted by Carly B on 12th Jan 2021

This tea is amazing! It’s the perfect blend for the colder months, both in flavor and for the health benefits of turmeric and ginger. It got me through the nausea caused by a cold, and my boyfriend likes it, too. A great comfort tea.

    Great!

Posted by Carly Brown on 17th Sep 2020

This tea has SO many different flavor notes. From the time you sip it until after you've swallowed, you taste the licorice, ginger, and turmeric separately and blended together. It's the perfect tea to sip to help abate nausea. I already know it'll be one of my go-to teas in the fall weather.

    Delicious!

Posted by Lindsay Hescock on 27th Aug 2020

I didn't expect to like this because I don't really like turmeric flavors. But it's naturally sweet! If you think "licorice root" will taste like the candy, it doesn't really. It has it's own sweet flavor, which I love. My boyfriend also loves this drink which is great because the licorice can help lower your blood pressure.

    Not a licorice fan

Posted by Silver on 2nd Aug 2020

I would like this if it were just ginger and turmeric. The sweetness of the licorice isn’t something I enjoy. If you do like licorice root in your tea you may really like this.

    Favorite tea!

Posted by Haley DiRenzo on 14th Nov 2019

I love this tea. Reishi's ginger turmeric used to be my go to but this has replaced. It's so good. Great on it's own and I often make a stronger brew and foam some milk for a tea latte. My favorite arbor tea!

    Good loose turmeric blend

Posted by Jennifer H on 15th Apr 2018

I've been looking for a loose, organic turmeric blend, and was really pleased when Arbor began offering this as they are my go-to tea company. I was a little disappointed by the amount of licorice in it, though, as I find it a bit too sweet and feel like it overwhelms both the turmeric and ginger. Brewing it for a bit longer helps, as does the fact that I purchased some dried, minced turmeric to add to the blend and change the ratio a bit. But the quality of the herbs is excellent and I trust Arbor's sourcing, so I'm still very pleased to be getting this here.

My husband's and my favorite night time brew

Posted by Johanna on 9th Apr 2018

This brews a strong, golden, deeply fragrant and spicy cup, so when I took my first sip I was really surprised at the natural sweetness from the licorice! Four steeps in it remains surprisingly strong. My husband and I absolutely love drinking this in the evenings.

    Love the golden treasure!

    Posted by Yen-Wen on 22nd Dec 2017

I like the tea a lot and it's so healthy to have such great combination! I like the taste stronger, so I brew the tea for 10 min instead of 7. I like the get the spice out of ginger! The tea can really make you feel cozy!
